Early Years Training Courses As an experienced trainer I offer workshops and consultancy on any subject area related to early years. I am happy to design a single workshop or a series of workshops which meet a client's needs. Listed below are some of the most popular subjects I currently deliver to individual providers, local authorities, childminding groups and nursery groups. Not Taking The Inside Out - Outdoor Play In It’s Own Right: Outdoor play is, and should be different, but the learning which takes place is of equal value to that which takes place indoors. In this workshop participants share practical, economic and simple ideas to support the curriculum outdoors, and create stimulating place and experiences which offer children opportunities to think creatively, imaginatively, to take risks and make mistakes and learn holistically in the best possible way. Enabling Environments: Participants review, design, equip and enrich the indoor learning environments. Emphasis is on independent, autonomous learning and how the environment can facilitate children’s learning across all six learning areas. Starting with the child, participants will explore how observation and assessment form the next steps in planning appropriate activities, materials, resources and interactions. Compassionate Connections: This one days course explores the role of the key person in Early Years settings Participants develop communication skills which support children’s sustained shared thinking and help form authentic key relationships . Compassionate Communications: This one or two day course looks at how practitioners can use verbal and non-verbal interaction skills to develop genuine and respectful relationships with children. Participants raise their awareness and understanding on the importance of helping children to build healthy attachments and develop communication skills which support children’s sustained shared thinking and help form authentic key relationships . The Unique Child: A one day workshop celebrating diversity through partnering parents and appreciating living in community together. Participants examine how we support children's emotional wellbeing and form authentic relationships by recognising, valuing and representing children’s similarities and differences within an early years environment. Taming Two’s, Three’s and Fours!: This one day event considers children’s holistic development and how adult’s positive and sensitive interaction can promote children’s desirable behavior through problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Participants explore how two, three and four year olds have a growing ‘theory of mind’ ; essential when learning society’s rules about acceptable behavior. They will use accepted child development theory to tune into the child's world and see things from their perspective, finally reflecting on the provision of developmentally appropriate activities and the establishment of an enabling environment which supports children’s social and emotional development. Rinse And Repeat! - Introducing Schemas: Offered as a one day course, this workshop provides an overview of schemas, introducing practitioners to eight of the most commonly observed, in a way which supports them in planning for children’s cognitive learning. Practitioners will relate their knowledge to the children in their own setting and begin to consider how to resource the environment to support schematic behavior. Sensorial Learning - Treasure Baskets & Heuristic Play: This one day event explores Treasure Basket and Heuristic Play based on the work of Elinor Goldschmied one of Europe's acknowledged experts on under three’s in day care. Participants will develop understanding of infants and young children as sensorial learners and the importance of using natural materials to support the all round development of this younger age group. They will learn how to plan and facilitate these exploration sessions and be aware of the health and safety issues involved. Safe Guarding Children: This level one training is an essential for all those working with young children. It covers all you need about safeguarding policy and procedures to protect the children in your setting including; Awareness of the possible signs of abuse; responding to concerns; record keeping; self-protection for staff and the role of the local safeguarding children's board, developing a policy and procedure. Pre And Post Ofsted - Understanding The Inspection Process: This one day event ensures that participants are prepared for the process of inspection. It is informative, proactive and ensures that unexpected surprises are limited. Participants will develop awareness of the inspection process, gain clarity about feedback, begin to self-evaluate by looking through the inspectors eyes at their setting and finally action to improve existing practice. Active Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage: A one-day course for all those working with children in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Participants will explore the concept of active learning, gaining understanding of the five principles which must be present for true active learning to occur. Participants will experience active learning from the child’s perspective, gaining insight into the role adult interaction and an enabling environment play in supporting children’s independent learning. Looking, Understanding And Deciding - Observation And Record Keeping For Early Years: This one day course explores simple clear and easy methods of observation and record keeping practice. Attendance will increase participant’s knowledge on how to observe children, assess the learning taking place and record it appropriately against the learning areas within the EYFS. Participants will practice observing children; develop evaluative and record keeping skills and gain confidence in knowing when learning is taking place for children. Planning For Early Years Settings Working Within The Early Years Foundation Stage: A one day course for those working with under fives, exploring long, medium and short term planning. Focusing on using observed interests and the identified needs of individual children to ensure differentiation is provided within adult planned activities. Unlocking Learning - The Six Areas Of Learning Demystified!: A two day workshop as a minimum: Can also be offered as a half day in depth workshop per learning area. Looking at each area of learning and their individual aspects in detail. Exploring what each aspect involves and how experiences can be provided in an active and exciting way which captures children’s interest. How Did We Get Here? - An Introduction To The EYFS: Participants will learn the history behind the EYFS, the Early Learning Goals and the 6 areas and various aspects of learning. This workshop aims to raise participant’s awareness and understanding of each of the six areas of learning, and the importance of a holistic approach to observation and assessment and planning for children children’s learning. and how to recognise when and what children are experiencing which contributes to their progress towards the early learning goals. |
